A young elephant seal seems to kiss another on the beach in Gold Harbour, South Georgia Island, in the southern Atlantic. Photographer Jan Vermeer [not that one] captured the image while on a wildlife trip. He said: “While young seals are naturally playful, I was thrilled to snap this endearing moment that resembles a kiss. I think there is something beautiful in reveling in sadness. The proof is how beautiful sad songs can be. So I don’t think being sad is to be avoided. It’s apathy and boredom you want to avoid. But feeling anything is good, I think. Maybe that’s sadistic of me.
